In addition to our rail intermodal terminal services, including lift-on/lift-off of containers and hostler services, we also operate several container and chassis repair depots associated with rail yard terminal services, with a full range of mechanical, welding and associated repair services.

MacCosham Inc. is looking for a full-time, permanent Trailer Mechanic / Apprentice Mechanic to join our growing team in Edmonton, AB. This is a unionized role.

The Role

  • Responsible for maintaining MacCosham equipment in a safe and cost efficient manner
  • Performing routine maintenance and servicing
  • Repairing trailers, containers, chassis, and other equipment
  • Make repairs on units in a timely and safe manner
  • Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
  • Must be able to complete all fleet maintenance processes
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience in trailer maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Must have basic computer skills and comfortable working with iPads
  • Must be capable of working under minimal supervision
  • Must demonstrate safe and efficient workplace practices
  • Highly motivated team player, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to carry out and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Strong attention to detail
  • The employee may be asked to perform work in our yard (same location as the shop).
    • This may include shunting, reefer checks, climbing up and down on rail cars and groundman duties

Compensation

  • Wage based on Collective Agreement ($20-$30)

The Role

  • Update inventory in our specialized on board computer system
  • Update and maintain accurate fuel records of company fleet and customer perishable loads
  • Accurately report temperatures on perishable loads
  • Inspect inbound containers, reporting any damage accurately
  • Complete and document accurate pre-trip analysis of yard equipment using iPads
  • Carry out additional tasks as required

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Must be available to work night shifts
  • Ability to work on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule
  • Demonstrate safe and efficient workplace practices
  • Ability to work within a team to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in the outdoors in all types of elements
  • Steel toe boots with an 6” rise are mandatory
  • Must be able to pass a company paid pre-employment screening test and background check as this is a safety sensitive position

The successful applicant for this position will be responsible for assisting in the trailer mechanic shop, repairing chassis, tire work and components. This is a unionized role.

The Role

  • Responsible for maintaining MacCosham equipment in a safe and cost efficient manner
  • Performing routine maintenance and servicing
  • Repairing trailers, containers, chassis, and other equipment
  • Repair or replace chassis components such as, glad-hands, and lights.
  • Repair or replace tires on chassis such as patches, valve stems, and retorques.
  • Make repairs on units in a timely and safe manner
  • Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
  • Must be able to complete all fleet maintenance processes
  • Assisting the other shop personnel fulfill their duties and increase overall shop productivity.
  • Clean own personal area during and at the end of each shift.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • Capable of meeting the physical demands of the heavy duty equipment environment (i.e. lifting up to 75 pounds)
  • Previous mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn required
  • Forklift experience and experience with trailer repairs is considered an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Must be capable of working under minimal supervision
  • Must demonstrate safe and efficient workplace practices
  • Highly motivated team player, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
